Canada Student Visa Document Checklist for Bangladeshi Students
Canadian refusals rarely say your file was thin. They say the officer was not satisfied. This checklist is built to satisfy, document by document.
Canadian study permit refusals come with a form letter: the officer was not satisfied that you would leave Canada, or not satisfied with your finances. Vague by design. But the files that get approved from Bangladesh look remarkably similar to each other, and the pattern is copyable. This is the document checklist that produces that pattern, current for 2026, including the PAL requirement that did not exist a few years ago.
The core documents
- Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Designated Learning Institution, with the DLI number visible
- Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL): since 2024, most study permit applications need this letter from the province of your school. Your institution arranges it; confirm before you pay any deposit
- Valid passport with at least one blank page, covering your program length
- GIC certificate: CAD 20,635 deposited with an approved Canadian bank (Scotiabank, RBC, CIBC and others run student GIC programs from Bangladesh)
- First-year tuition payment receipt, or at minimum the deposit receipt
- Digital photo to IRCC spec, and your biometrics appointment at VFS Dhaka after applying
The financial layer
The GIC plus paid tuition is the spine of a Bangladeshi file under the SDS-style structure. Around it, officers want the story of where the money came from: bank statements going back four to six months, a solvency certificate, and for sponsor income either salary certificates and tax documents (service holders) or trade licence plus bank statements (business families). Land sale? Include the deed and the deposit trail. The single most refused pattern is a large sum appearing two weeks before application with no paper behind it.
The intent layer
A Statement of Purpose for the visa (different from a university SOP): one page on why this program, why Canada, and what you return to. Officers read hundreds; specificity is the only thing that registers. Name the program courses that map to your career. Name the employer type or family business you return to. If you have a study gap, document what filled it. Educational documents (SSC, HSC, bachelor's transcripts and certificates) complete this layer, attested where asked.
Without IELTS: the routes that exist
Straight talk: for most Bangladeshi applicants, a language test is effectively required, because the streamlined processing route expects IELTS 6.0+ or an equivalent. The real alternatives are narrow. PTE Core and TOEFL are accepted equivalents, and PTE bookings in Dhaka are often faster than IELTS. CAEL and CELPIP exist but have limited Dhaka availability. A handful of universities admit on a medium-of-instruction letter, but university admission is not the visa: the study permit file still reads stronger with a test score in it. Budget the ৳23,000 and take the test. It is the cheapest risk reduction in the whole file.
Print this list, then check it against the current IRCC document checklist for your application type at canada.ca, because requirements genuinely change. The PAL rule arrived in 2024, the GIC amount was CAD 10,000 until 2023. Our Canada guide at /study-in-canada-from-bangladesh/ tracks the current numbers.
Assembly order that saves weeks
Work backwards from biometrics. The GIC takes one to two weeks to open and fund from Dhaka. The PAL depends on your province and institution, sometimes same-week, sometimes a month. Attestation queues at the education board move slowly in admission season. Start the GIC and the PAL confirmation the day your LOA arrives, book the language test before that, and the rest of the file assembles while those two clocks run.
