Cheapest Countries to Study Abroad from Bangladesh in 2026
You do not need ৳40L to study abroad. Five destinations get you a recognised degree for a fraction of that, and two of them can end up nearly free.
The biggest myth about studying abroad from Bangladesh is that it always costs ৳30L to ৳45L. That is true for the USA, the UK, and Australia, but it is not true everywhere. Several serious destinations, with recognised universities and real post-study options, cost a fraction of that. This guide ranks the five most affordable choices by realistic first-year cost in BDT, and explains where scholarships change the picture completely.
Every figure here is a planning estimate. Tuition, visa fees, and living cost requirements change, so verify current amounts on the official embassy and university sources before you budget. Use our country pages for the full breakdown of each destination.
1. Malaysia: ৳8L to ৳16L for the first year
Malaysia is the cheapest quality option available to Bangladeshi students, and it is not close. Public universities charge roughly RM 9,000 to RM 20,000 per year, living costs run RM 1,200 to RM 1,900 per month, and the flight home costs less than a domestic trip in some Western countries. The surprise is the branch campuses: Monash, Nottingham, and Southampton run Malaysian campuses that award the identical degree as the UK or Australian parent, at about a third of the price.
- First year, all in: about ৳8L to ৳16L
- Student Pass runs online through EMGS, usually 4 to 8 weeks
- Many private universities accept students without IELTS
- Watch out: no general post-study work visa
2. Italy: ৳9L to ৳18L for the first year
Italian public universities charge income-based tuition that can fall below €1,000 per year, and regional DSU scholarships can cover fees and add a living grant for eligible students. Living costs outside the big cities are among the lowest in Western Europe. The admission process runs through Universitaly pre-enrolment, which takes patience, but the cost outcome rewards it.
3. France: ৳13L to ৳22L for the first year
France charges non-EU students about €2,770 per year at public universities, one of the lowest fixed rates in the world. Living outside Paris costs €700 to €950 per month. Add the 12-month APS post-study permit and more than 1,500 English-taught programs, and France is arguably the best value in Western Europe for students who want both low cost and a work pathway.
4. Japan: ৳14L to ৳26L, and possibly nearly free
Japan looks mid-range on sticker price. National university tuition is about ¥535,800 per year, with living costs of ¥90,000 to ¥145,000 per month. What moves Japan up this list is funding: the MEXT scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly stipend of over ¥117,000, and airfare, with no bond to repay. University tuition waivers of 30% to 100% are also common. A strong applicant who starts a year early can study in Japan for less than the cost of staying home.
5. Germany: ৳12L to ৳20L for the first year
Public universities in most German states charge no tuition at all, only a small semester fee. The main cost is the blocked account of €11,904 per year that you must fund before the visa, plus living costs. Germany rewards students who plan early and can handle bureaucracy; the payoff is an almost tuition-free engineering degree and an 18-month post-study job search visa.
How to choose between them
Pick by your endgame, not only the first-year number. If you want the lowest possible cost and a fast process, Malaysia wins. If you want to settle in Europe, France, Germany, and Italy all offer post-study permits, and Finland and Sweden are worth the extra budget for their longer runways. If you are a strong student willing to prepare a year ahead, Japan with MEXT can beat them all on total cost.
