Intake timeline

September is the main intake for almost all Irish universities. Some graduate programs have a January intake. Applications open as early as October for the following September.

Start 8 to 12 months early. Research and shortlist programs October–December. Submit applications January–March. Receive offers March–May. Apply for your study visa May–June. Travel late August to September. Early programs and scholarships may require applying even earlier.

Work rights

Up to 20 hours per week during term time. During mid-term breaks and official summer holidays (June to September) and the Christmas period (15 December to 15 January), you may work full time. Working beyond 20 hours during term is a visa condition breach.

Post study options

The Third Level Graduate Scheme (Stamp 1G) lets you stay in Ireland for 12 months after a bachelor's degree or 24 months after a master's or PhD to search for work, without restrictions on the type of job. If you secure a qualifying position, the Critical Skills Employment Permit can lead to permanent residency in just 2 years.

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships (GoI-IES) are competitive awards covering tuition and a living stipend. Most Irish universities also offer merit scholarships of €2,000–€5,000. Apply as early as possible as these funds are limited.
