New Zealand master's programs run 1 to 2 years; the popular 180-point taught master's finishes in 18 months. Bachelor's degrees are 3 years. Receive the eVisa
Decisions typically take 4 to 8 weeks in peak season. The visa arrives electronically; there is no passport submission for most applicants.
International students must hold acceptable medical and travel insurance for the entire stay; universities bundle an approved policy (typically NZD 600 to 800 per year) into enrolment. You cannot start classes without it, and Immigration NZ checks it at the visa stage.
There is no embassy appointment. The entire application runs online through Immigration New Zealand, with only the medical examination done in person at an approved panel clinic in Dhaka. That makes file quality everything: with no interview to explain gaps, the documents must tell the whole story on their own.

Intake timeline
February is the main intake, aligned to the Southern Hemisphere academic year, with a substantial July intake for most programs. A small November intake exists at some institutions.
Start 8 to 10 months early. For February entry: apply to universities by August or September, receive offers by October, lodge the visa by October or November, and fly in late January. July entry runs on the mirrored schedule.
Work rights
Up to 20 hours per week during term and full-time during scheduled holidays. Master's by research and PhD students may work unlimited hours. The minimum wage (around NZD 23 per hour) makes part-time work genuinely useful against living costs.
Post study options
The Post-Study Work Visa gives degree-level graduates up to 3 years of open work rights with no job offer required. Bachelor's graduates typically get 3 years; sub-degree qualifications get less or none, which is why the cheaper diploma route usually backfires. From skilled work, the Skilled Migrant Category and Green List roles lead to residence.
University scholarships for international students run NZD 5,000 to NZD 20,000, often automatic with a strong admission (Otago, Waikato, and Canterbury are notably generous).
